My journey in Form 6 4. Sem 1 in overall

Speaking is always easier than action. The moment I set up a goal to score 4 flats, I had to face the truth, which was the difficulty of Form 6 syllabus. Since I didn't pay much attention on the lesson during the first month, there was a lot for me to catch up, haiz...

The syllabus of Form 6 was simply another level of SPM. To give you a clear picture, I will say that SPM is just a go-kart, while STPM itself is Formula One, a nice comparison inspired by the recent football arguments.

(STPM is like driving Formula One, so fast and not easy, don't  play play)

So, definitely I had a hard time to adapt myself with the change of environment. As a self-dubbed Math lover a.k.a. Math pro, I didn't really absorb what was taught by my Math teacher in school. For your info, I never fail to score A for Mathematics in the past, even a double A+ for Modern and Add Maths, Maths T was my first hurdle. Already messed up myself in Mathematics, I faced troubles in Physics and of course my "lovely" Chemistry too. This was simply due to my weak base in these science subjects.

General Paper, the subject which gave me a false sense of the combination of History and Bahasa, was just a totally new subject. The first semester of the subject demands  students' sensitivity on common issue and Malaysia government administration system ( cabinet, Ministry and so on). But all this was ok for me as I updated to the current issues all the time. The only scary part of General Paper was its essay, the core section to score the papers. In the first few class practice, I scored less than 5 for each paper, out of 25. Ya, simply no joke or bullshiting, the scores were ugly and humiliating, which somehow took away my confidence. The score was normal for a newbie in Form 6, so don't be frightened.

I faced these hurdles in the second month of my Sem 1, which made me having a deep thought of my goal set earlier.

"How can I score four flats with this poor performance? Can I make it in less than 5 months before exam?"

This question revolving around me at the time, and I was stressed for it. However, I know I don't have much choice, thus I tried to modify the way I study.

I went tuition for two subjects, which were Mathematics T and Chemistry. For Physics and General Paper, I would always seek help from school teacher when I ran out of ideas. The tuition was great, as I faced quality mentors who enlightened and surprised me most of the time. Mr Lee, my Math tuition teacher able to describe complicated theory using simple illustration. In his class, I never fall asleep as I was amazed every time he showed the mathematical proof, one word to describe it- Beauty. My Chemistry tuition teacher, Pn Chua was another legendary figure to be mentioned. She is a popular tuition teacher in Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam. She always willing to stay after class for extra tutorial. As a noobie in Chemistry, i found that i benefited a lot from her extra class.

For the first time, I burned midnight oil for revision. It was special to mention as  I really didn't stay late night for study before in my entire school life, except for SPM. Before Semester one, i hold my personal record for not staying later than 10.30 pm. But during Semester One, I stayed until 12.30 for revision sometime. (I know it's still early for some people but it's already hard for me to focus). A month before P1( First Semester Exam), i would revise until the time I couldn't open my eyelid, then only i went for sleep. Besides self-revision, i was lucky to form a study group of five. Staying after school every Wednesday had became a routine for group study. Besides working hard for better grades, we spent most of our time talking nonsense, it was the moment that I collect a precious friendship in Form 6.

During the Semester One, I was used to accept the absence and presence of someone. Many students tend to drop Form 6 with different reasons, some received matriculation offer (third batch, forth batch and many batches ...) and some went for private universities simply because they couldn't cope Form 6. Meanwhile, there were new batch of students from other schools coming. This made me understand that the things happen around wouldn't last forever. I can say that this phenomena strengthened the bond between the one who stay, as we appreciated that the fate gathered us together, in one school, for Form 6.

The time passed quickly and it was the school trial examination. My hard work proved to be worthy as I scored well in my Maths and Science subjects (A/A-). General Paper, in contrast, bringing my grades down. I got below 10 for both my essays and it affected a lot. Meanwhile, I noticed something special in this trial examination. Some who was scoring well in the past couldn't perform what they should get, those who was weak previously but working hard in Form 6 achieved a dramatic improvement. From the moment, I realized that Form 6 was not hard and scary as what other said, it was simply a test of your perseverance and determination, if you endure, you survive!

With the revised study method, I can said I scored pretty well in the first semester. 3A's for Maths and Science while a B+ for General Paper, I knew it was not a bad start actually. However, it still haven't enough for the ambition if I couldn't find a way to breakthrough General Paper...
